The Indianapolis Jazz Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and education of jazz in Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Jazz Foundation is comprised of people who are musicians, club owners, and media supporters, and most importantly, fans.

Our main purposes are to be an educational resource, to expose listeners to jazz and educate them to the different varieties of jazz, to provide a link to resources promoting the local jazz industry, and to support local jazz artists and jazz venues.

The Indianapolis Jazz Foundation presents clinics in area schools, provides jazz workshops in the community, and provides  jazz scholarships to deserving young musicians who may otherwise not have access to a jazz education.  We also promote jazz as an art form and celebrate Indianapolis' jazz heritage through our IJF Hall of Fame and our Oral Histories project.

On Sunday, June 1st, 2008 at 10:30 a.m., in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the landmark Harlem 1958 photograph, we paid homage to all Indiana jazz musicians, with a group photgraph taken by photographer Mark Sheldon. The event took place indoors on the wide staircase of the Indiana Historical Society. More than 100 musicians attended. From that photograph, a limited-edition poster was produced, with proceeds going to Jazz Education through the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation and other organizations. The foundation’s goal is to promote the understanding and appreciation of jazz and its heritage, provide leadership for educational outreach programs and assist teachers and practitioners with information and resources while taking an active part in organizing clinics and symposia at local and regional levels. Cost is $20.00 or $24.00 with shipping in sturdy mailing tube and can be picked up at the Chatterbox, Jazz Kitchen, Great Frame Up at 62nd and Allisonville as well as 612 N.
